ABOUT OUR PATRON
St. Margaret Clitherow, one of the holy martyrs of England & Wales for which our parish is named, was born in Middleton, England, in 1555, of Protestant parents. In 1571, she married John Clitherow, a well-to-do butcher (to whom she bore two children), and a few years later entered the Catholic Church. Her zeal led her to harbor fugitive priests, for which she was arrested and imprisoned by hostile civil authorities. They attempted to make her deny her Faith, but the holy woman stood firm. Finally, she was condemned to be pressed to death on March 25, 1586. Her feast day is March 26th.
ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Any big venture needs financial supporters and visionaries to invest in and help direct its future and mission. Members of the Clitherow Society commit to financially supporting Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, praying for the growth of the parish and development, inviting like-minded people to join us in our efforts, and to identify and support fundraising opportunities as they arise.
Like our patroness herself, membership in the Clitherow Society means to join a group of servant leaders working to enable the greater success of the Ordinariate in the Temecula Valley and in Southern California.
Novena Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, give us the courage and grace not only to live holy lives, but to be willing to die holy deaths as St. Margaret of Clitherow did. We thank you, dear Lord, for the examples of your holy saints. May we follow in their footsteps. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
